Unwanted Hair on the body is always a problem for women.They are mostly found worried about it. Usually the Hirsutism or excess of Hair occurs on the woman’s body due to increased level of male Hormones.The situations that may lead to Hirsutism may include abnormalities like Polsystic Ovary Syndrome, Cushing’s syndrome and specific medicines containing Steroids. The women suffering from Polsystic Overy Syndrome, the unwanted Hair can be controlled with the birth Control medicines, medicines of Blood Pressure and some other treatments.

Whole of our body is covered with the Hair except Palms of Hands, Soles of Feet, Lips and the Eyelids.

There are 2 types of Hair:

  1. Vellus Hair
  2. Coarser Hair

1. Vellus Hair

These are the soft and Fine Hair and are found on most of the body. The main purpose of this Hair is to maintain the temperature of body.

2. Terminal Hair

Terminal Hair is a type of Hair is grown on Head, under arms and Genitals. this Hair protects the sensitive areas of body.

Methods to remove Hair

Following are some of the methods to remove Hair from the body including:

  2. Threading
  3. Shaving
  4. Waxing
  5. Depilatories
  6. Electrolysis
  7. Laser Therapy

1. Plucking

People should not over pluck their Hair on Eyebrows because the Hair on Eyebrows grows slowly as compare to the rest of body. Most of the Hairs on Eyebrows are in the Telogen phase; being in this stage the Hair grows back slowly. When you tweeze Hair, do it with great care and scarcely because plucked Hair will come back in few weeks.

Plucking is the least expensive and easy method for making the shape of Eyebrows, people can do plucking themselves.

2. Threading

Threading is good for flat surfaces so it is best for Face. An individual twists a piece of thread over the face of another person, capture Hairs and pull them out of root. Threading become popular in a short time, it is an easy and a less painful way to remove Hair from Upper Lip, Hair line and other parts of the Face.

3. Shaving

Shaving is another way to remove Hairs but it is a myth that Hair may become thicker and darker after shaving. Shaving makes the tip of Hair blunt so it looks darker and rough when it grows again.

4. Waxing

Waxing is a good way to remove unwanted Hair. It is the process in which the melted Wax is applied to the areas where you find unwanted Hair, allow the wax to cool down, become hard then pull the patch of wax in opposite direction. The patch of Wax will take all the Hair out with it. However FDA forbids using Wax on the areas including Nipples, Genitals, Eyelashes, Nose and Ears. People don’t bother about this warning and they use wax anywhere on the body including Face and Bikini areas.

Waxing can also lead to the infections and inflammation. Avoid using Wax on the Sunburned or infected Skin.

Waxing and Use of Certain Medicines

Some medicines including Antibiotics and Acne treatments can make Skin thinner, sensitive start tearing. You should consult a doctor, if you are using any type of medicines. Ask the doctor, if you can do waxing along with the medications. This is required as the Antibiotic can remove the Skin layer and can lead to bruises and infections.

5. Depilatories

Depilatories are inexpensive and easy way to remove the unwanted Hair from the body. It works by dissolving the Hair and separate them from Skin. Depilatories react with the Protein in Hair and dissolve them in to a jelly like thing which can easily clean from the body. It is a painless to remove Hair but the smell of these depilatories is annoying.

Drawbacks of Depilatories

Following are the drawbacks of depilatories:

  • It can burn the Skin, if left for a long time on it.
  • It may not be effective on thick Hair.
  • It should not be used on the Eyebrows, infected Skin or near Eyes.
  • It comes in many forms including Gel, Lotion, Cream, Spray and Roll-on.

6. Electrolysis

Electrolysis is technique that permanently removes Hair from body by destroying the center of growth of a Hair. The Skin may become Red soon after Electrolysis but there are no permanent side effects of this technique. Electrolysis is considered as a painful treatment but in real, it is not. People say they have a tingling feeling while Electrolysis is done being done on their body. In this process, an Electrologist enters a small needle in to the Hair Follicle and applies Electrical current that may kill the Follicle. This procedure is done on each and every Hair so Electrolysis is difficult to be done on larger parts of body.

It is a permanent technique of removing Hair so, a fewer people have re-growth of their Hair. Electrolysis may lead to the risk of infection due to unsterile needles. People may have scars if the Electrologist is not an expert person.

7. Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy is another permanent technique of removing Hair from the different parts of body. Laser is best for Light Skin and dark Hair. In this procedure, a beam of light is used to destroy the Hair Follicles. The Light is absorbed in to the Melanin; the pigment colors the Skin and Hair that’s why it is best for the light Skin and dark hair. Laser treatment is not very effective on the light Hair.

Laser treatment is best for the larger areas with unwanted Hairs it is also not very painful. The complete treatment is composed of several treatments.

Risks of Laser

Risks of Laser may include Blistering, discoloration, swelling, Redness and scarring.

Patients need to have the treatment after every 6 months to a year.

Effectiveness of Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is most effective on the areas of Bikini and underarms as it is good for the areas with the thin Skin and Skin at Bikini and Underarms is quite thin as compare to the other body parts including Legs and Arms etc. a numbing cream is best to decrease the effect of pain due to Laser therapy.

People should take the sessions of Laser treatment from expert dermatologist as there is risk of Skin burn or discoloration but it does not affect the surrounding Skin and the side effects of Laser are not permanent.

Laser treatment is a medical treatment as it can damage your Skin or lead to discoloration if not done with care. Workers in the salon are not permitted to do the laser therapy as it has its own practice and expertise. The limitations and requirements of Laser doctors may vary from country to country.

Exfoliation for Ingrown Hairs

Exfoliation is good for ingrown Hairs. Ingrown hair occurs when the Hair does not come out of the Skin after shaving and makes a bump or leads to irritation. Ingrown Hairs are usually caused due to frequent shaving. The best way to avoid these ingrown Hairs is to do exfoliation regularly. Take a scrub and rub it softly, the upper dead layer will be removed and the ingrown Hairs will come out easily. Try to use warm Water while shaving and shave in the same direction of Hair. It will reduce the chances of ingrown Hairs.
