On Sunday, May 15, Robert Predit a researcher found in his new study that Smoking can increase the risk of Kidney Cancer. This study was conducted in the Duke University Medical Center. The study followed 845 patients who had the surgery for the Kidney Cancer or Renal Cell Carcinoma between the years 2000-2009.

These findings were presented in the on Sunday in a Special Press Conference at the American Urological Association’s Annual Meeting in Washington D.C.The researchers found that the current or the formers smokers had more risk of Cancers as compare to the nonsmokers. The researchers found that heavy smoking is linked to the Renal Cell Carcinoma. The people who had left smoking their risk for diseases is decreased to almost 9%.

Another study presented at the Conference stated that in United States the rates of Bladder Cancer don’t reduce even with the decreased rates of Smoking. The researchers studied a National Database and they have found that the rate of Kidney Cancer is decreased with lowering the consumption of Cigarettes between the years 1973- 2007, but at the same time they have found that no decline is seen in the rate of Bladder Cancer with the decreased rate of Cigarette consumption.

Skin Allergies may protect Various Cancers

A new research suggested that people who have rashes when their Skin is in contact with some metals or chemicals, they have less risk for certain Cancers. The researchers say that the findings support the fact the allergies enhance the immune system to kill the Cancer cells before they damage it. This theory is known as the Immunosurveillance Hypothesis.

Contact Allergies and Cancer:

Contact allergies are reactions to the metals like Nickel, Cobalt or other chemicals that are found in plants as Poison Ivy and Poison Oak, perfumes and Hair dyes.Previous research says that people suffering from different types of allergies may have lower risk of different Cancers, but a new study specifically considers the Contact Skin Allergies.

Associate researcher Kaare Engkilde, PhD, of Denmark National Allergy Research Center, tells that the results do not prove that Contact Allergies have a direct effect on Cancer risk.

These allergies are not given much attention in research but it seems that these allergies have general effect than we previously thought.Engkilde followed 17,000 adults in the country to test for contact Skin allergies between 1984 and 2008.About 1 in 35% people have positive reactions to at least 1 Allergen. Women have more chances of Contact Allergy than men, having 41% of positive reactions as compare to men.

Allergic People had Fewer Breast and Skin Cancers:

In National Cancer Registry, the researchers determined the 15 different malignancies in participants. When the researchers compared the allergy and Cancer data, they found that people with Contact Skin Allergies have fewer rates of Breast Cancer and Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers.Women suffering from contact Skin Allergies have lower rates of Brain Cancer; this was not seen in men.

8 New Causes of Cancer

Polystyrene

On June 10, 2011, U.S added 8 new chemicals that cause Cancer. The U.S official says there are 8 new substances which can cause Cancer. They generated a list containing the information about the Toxins suspected to cause Cancer.

There are 240 agents on the list. This list is maintained by the National Toxicology Program. The NTP divided agents in to 2 categories:

1.    Those known to cause Cancer.

2.    Those expected to add to the known Carcinogen.

The list contains all the scientific evidences of all these agents. The researcher John Bucher, PhD, an associate Director of the NTP, a department of the National Institutes of Health says that this is impossible to completely avoid the exposure to the Carcinogens.

The Bucher said at a Teleconference that we are exposed to Carcinogens in our life everyday such as in Drugs, in Chemicals, in Sunlight, in Tobacco Smoke, in Tanning Beds etc.

This report will allow the people to make choices what they need every day. Simply avoid using the products containing these substances if are not comfortable with the risk.

Most of the risks come from the Industrial Exposure to the workers who work in the manufacturing plants. It is not clear how much risk comes, it may come from many consumer products and these products also emit the Carcinogens.

The Bucher says, he is not worried about his exposure to these products because he is not making any changes.
